During my time taking social science courses at the University of Redlands, I have developed a deeper understanding of United States history and how the events of the past continue to shape our present world. This essay in particular demonstrates my growth in historical thinking and cultural analysis.Writing this essay pushed me to move beyond surface-level summary and toward analytical interpretation, asking not just what happened, but why it mattered and who was affected.This artifact reflects my growth as a thinker who can situate historical events within broader social narratives, understand the lived experiences of marginalized groups, and draw meaningful connections between the past and the present. It also demonstrates my developing skills in academic writing, evidence-based argumentation, and interdisciplinary thinking.
